“Men in Drag”
This project was sponsored with a minigrant from the Mississippi Arts commission (MAC) and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).
The concept of this project is about creative exploration of gender identity and expression. The idea is to showcase the beauty and complexity of men who challenge traditional gender norms by putting on clothing and makeup traditionally associated with women.
This series capture the nuances of gender expression and how it intersects with cultural, societal, and personal beliefs. Each painting depicts their individual style, personality, and story.
This series also serve as a means of challenging societal norms and expectations surrounding gender and beauty. By showcasing the beauty and confidence of men in drag, the paintings can inspire conversations and reflections on the fluidity of gender identity and the power of self-expression.
Overall, this series of paintings about men in drag are a powerful statement on gender, beauty, and individuality, encouraging viewers to expand their minds and leave a positive feeling toward the LGBTQ+ community and try to eliminate some of the homophobia around this form of expression.
